THINGS TO DO

CABINET WAR ROOMS

Shortly after becoming Prime Minister in May 1940, Winston Churchill visited the Cabinet War Rooms, to see for himself what preparations had been made to allow him and his War Cabinet to continue working throughout the expected air raids on London. It was there, in the underground Cabinet Room, that he announced ‘This is the room from which I will direct the war’. This is where Churchill and his inner circle not only took shelter during the Blitz, but also where master strategies were hatched and top-secret conversations were whispered late into the night.

HOUSEHOLD CAVALRY MUSEUM

Enjoy a private guided tour of the Guards Museum and learn of the five regiments of the Foot Guards, namely Grenadier, Coldstream, Scots, Irish and Welsh Guards. Along with the two regiments of Household Cavalry, they make up Her Majesty’s Household Division and enjoy the privilege of guarding The Sovereign and the Royal Palaces. Treasured possessions date from the end of the English Civil War, right up to the NATO-led Afghanistan campaign. See wonderful artefacts relating to The Grand Old Duke of York, The Duke of Wellington, Field Marshall Alexander and many other items relating to the ordinary soldier.

BOMBAY SAPPHIRE GIN DISTILLERY

Visit Bombay Sapphire Distillery in the Hampshire countryside. Hosted by an ambassador, explore behind the scenes at Laverstoke Mill. See how the rare vapour infusion distillation process works with and exotic botanicals from the ends of the Earth. Visit the Dakin Still House and India House where every drop of Bombay Sapphire Gin is made. Learn about the flora throughout the distillery and the beautiful botanicals in the glasshouses

WELLS CATHEDRAL

Wells, England’s smallest city is a quiet market town at the foot of the Mendip Hills within easy reach of Bath. Wholly ecclesiastical in origin and development, it keeps much of its medieval character.  The twice-weekly market place, cathedral, Bishops Palace an old buildings of the clergy form a harmonious group. The palace has been home to the Bishops of Bath and Wells for 800 years and visiting will permit you to take a step back in time to the 13th century.

GUIDED HIKE ON DARTMOOR

In the middle of the county, Dartmoor National Park is a sprawling area of untamed moorland, dotted with ancient sites.  Take a private nature tour across one of England’s last great wildernesses, either by foot or in a Land Rover, to discover an area rich in both archaeology and geology.

SOLENT RIB RIDE

Enjoy a privately charted, lightweight, high performance rib boat to take you across The Solent and to the Isle of Wight.

PLACES VISITED

LONDON

London, with its unique blend of history and culture, is constantly changing, with new landmarks, stylish restaurants and clubs opening up all the time. Recently voted as the gourmet capital of the world, London is the European capital to stay in touch with all that’s new and exciting, while enjoying its wealth of historic buildings and eclectic mix of museums and art galleries. With its unique blend of history and culture, the bustling metropolis of London has long been considered a must-see destination. The city is constantly changing, offering a wealth of historic buildings and monuments, as well as an eclectic mix of museums, art galleries and world famous attractions.

BATH

Considered one of Britain’s most beautiful cities, Bath is home to some of nation’s grandest and most graceful architecture. Sweeping crescents of gorgeous Georgian architecture co-exist harmoniously with ancient cobbled alleys and grand Roman Bathhouses, ensuring that almost every corner of the city boasts classical beauty that will stop you in your tracks.

ISLE OF WIGHT

The Isle of Wight is 23 miles wide and 13 miles long, and is littered with picturesque villages and bustling small towns. It has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Over the years, the island has attracted many famous visitors, but its best-known resident is perhaps Queen Victoria. She was so smitten with the place that she moved her summer residence from Brighton to here

DARTMOOR

As much as the pretty inlets and golden beaches cements Devon’s character, its wild moorlands are perhaps even more defining. British author, Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of ‘consulting detective’, Sherlock Holmes, used the mist-shrouded moors of Dartmoor National Park as the backdrop for one of his most famous tales, The Hound of the Baskervilles. There is perhaps no more an iconic sight than a herd of ponies grazing together.  They have been here a long time; hoof prints found during an archaeological dig were found to be over 3000 years old.
