Day One: Arrival in London

On arrival at London Heathrow Airport be met and welcomed by your local chauffeur-guide.

Check into your accommodation, a luxury 5-star hotel housed in one of the city’s most iconic buildings. The historic hotel, originally designed by architect George Gilbert Scott, first opened its doors in 1873. Today, many of the striking Victorian architectural features remain, including the magnificent Grand Staircase. Spend the rest of the day at leisure, resting and relaxing following your international flight.

Day Two: Literary London: What the Dickens!

Accompanied by a private specialist guide, the day begins with a walking tour of London with a literary twist. Take a step back in time to walk the streets of Victorian London, following in the footsteps of renowned English author Charles Dickens, and some of his most memorable characters.

From an historic stretch of road frequented by Dickens during his idyllic early life to a place names immortalised in Little Dorrit, make your way through a tumbledown churchyard to gaze up at the formidable remains of the Marshalsea Prison where Dickens’ father was imprisoned.

Continue through a maze of backstreets to enter a secret garden which dates from 1887. Pay a visit to a poignant graveyard, and explore, as Dickens put it in Pickwick Papers, “Great rambling, queer old places with galleries, and passages, and staircases, wide enough and antiquated enough, to furnish materials for a hundred ghost stories”.

Day Three: Best of British

Make your way to the British Museum, the world’s oldest museum, which was founded in 1753. It consists of two and a half miles of galleries displaying artefacts from almost every aspect of international cultural history. It is a vast treasure trove of historic artefacts that have been amassed over the centuries by generations of collectors and archaeologists from all around the world.

To follow, this afternoon enjoy a special experience at The British Library. Enjoy a private guided tour of The Treasures Gallery which hosts more than 200 priceless items including the notebook of famous British author Jane Austen, handwritten lyrics by the Beatles, and the Magna Carter which is known as one of the most famous documents in the world and a cornerstone of the British constitution.

Day Four: London at Leisure

Spend the day at leisure, doing as much or as little as you please.

Day Five: London Landmarks

Your chauffeur- guide will escort you to the Tower of London – a UNESCO World Heritage Site – for a private pre-opening guided tour. With construction begun in the early 1080s by William the Conqueror, the Tower has borne witness to many defining events in British history.

To follow, visit St Paul’s Cathedral, one of London’s most iconic landmarks. The first service at St Paul’s took place in 1697, since then the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Victoria, the Golden and Diamond Jubilees of Elizabeth II, and the wedding of Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer have all taken place here. Your tour will allow you to view the library, Geometric Staircase and Great Model, as well as the spectacular view down the nave from above the Great West Doors.

The day completes with a visit to Westminster Abbey, a stunning Gothic church which intertwines with the very fabric of English history and has done for more than 1,000 years. It has been the site of every coronation since 1066 and is the final resting place of seventeen monarchs.

Day Six: Onward Travel

Your chauffeur-guide will accompany you to London Heathrow Airport where you will board your flight for onward travel.
