The enchanting Tudor courtyard and the gatehouse only hint at the splendour which is revealed as you enter the castle grounds. Visit the Banqueting Hall, Kitchen, the Bedchamber and Privy Chamber and perhaps climb from the depths of the Dungeon to the top of the Watch Tower.

Black Sheep Brewery– Visit a local family-owned brewery which opened in 1992 and produces cask, keg and bottled beers and continues to develop new and experimental brews. Each beer is the influenced by the brewing expertise and passion spanning over six family generations and its outstanding quality.
Enjoy a private guided tour of Castle Howard before it opens its vast doors to the public. A truly magnificent 18thcentury house, and private residence of the Howard family for more than 300 years. It is situated in stunning parkland dotted with temples, lake statues and fountains. The baroque building took over 100 years to complete but the result was astounding with two symmetrical wings and a central dome and has been the setting for various TV shows and films including Brideshead Revisited and Downton Abbey.
Embark on a wonderful, hands-on experience as you don a pair of wellington boots and head out to fields to meet the area’s most populous resident, the numerous herds of sheep. Learn how to gather wool and try your hand at weaving in a working mill to create a fantastic souvenir to take home with you.

Haworth Parsonage is where the Brontë Sisters grew up with their father during the 19th century. Their inspirational home has now been turned into a museum; Brontë Parsonage Museum and holds the world’s largest collection of Brontë manuscripts, furniture and personal possessions. There is a vivid portrayal of the life and works of the three sisters whose novels have become such an important part of the cannon of English literature. Highlights include some of the sisters’ childhood treasures, such as the ‘little books’ they wrote together and poems written by Emily. Perhaps the most interesting room in the parsonage is the dining room, where Charlotte, Emily and Anne wrote most. You can still see the table, complete with inkblots and a small carved letter E, where the sisters wrote their masterpieces, respectively Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall.
Castle Howard is a truly magnificent 18th century house, it is situated in stunning parkland dotted with temples, lake statues and fountains. You’ll also be swept away by the scale and the beauty of Castle Howard’s monumental landscape, which offers spectacular views at every turn.
The ruined farmhouse, Top Withens, sitting alone, high on the moors is generally believed to have inspired the eponymous farmhouse in Wuthering Heights. To get there, take walk from the Brontë Waterfalls and the Brontë Bridge that is widely thought to be one of the sisters’ favourite places to admire the peaceful but often bleak countryside
The Shambles are often regarded as Europe’s best preserved medieval street. It is complete with overhanging timber-framed buildings some dating back to the 14th century.
If there is one building that epitomises York, it is the majestic Gothic cathedral called York Minster. The site was once the headquarters of the Romans who occupied the city, but the cathedral as it stands today was consecrated in 1472 following a build time of 250 years. It contains what many consider to be Britain’s greatest concentration of stained glass, including the Great East Window.
