Gregans Castle Hotel is an oasis of comfort and genuine Irish hospitality with breath-taking views across Galway Bay. It is the ultimate luxurious and decadent hideaway idyllically situated overlooking the unique Burren landscape. The elegant bedrooms, antiques, modern art, turf fires, candlelight and garden flowers add to the indulgently relaxing atmosphere. Guests have included J.R.R Tolkien, who is said to have been influenced by the Burren when writing The Lord of the Rings, as well as other revered artists such as Seamus Heaney and Sean Scully.
Rooms : 21 Bedrooms and Suites. Type : Couples, Families, Outdoor Active
Gregans Castle Hotel is a luxury and gourmet retreat, nestled in the heart of the beautiful Burren on Ireland’s west coast. The house has been welcoming guests since the 1940s and has been run by the same family since 1976. The stunning 18th century manor house is set in its own established and lovingly-attended gardens on the Wild Atlantic Way, and has spectacular views that stretch across the Burren hills to Galway Bay.
Inside, you’ll find welcoming open fires, candlelight and striking decoration ranging from modern art, to antique furniture, to pretty garden flowers adorning the rooms.
With warm Irish hospitality, stylish accommodation, outstanding service and exceptional fine dining in our award-winning restaurant, Gregans is a country house of the 21st century. You can do nothing or everything here. And whatever you choose, celebrating all that is wondrous and beautiful in this truly exceptional place.
The Burren is brimming with life, but the word Burren actually comes from the Gaelic word ‘Boireann’, meaning ‘a place of stone’. And, it may be Ireland’s smallest national park, but the distinctive limestone pavements, majestic mountains and peaceful verdant valleys make it one of the most intriguing: both CS Lewis and Tolkien took inspiration from this magical place.
Guided Walking and cycling Tours
The quiet lanes around the property are ideal for cycling and there are many walking trails too. There are bicycles for guests to use at the hotel and Dream Escape can organise local guides. Most of the staff have local knowledge of good walking trails and can suggest many interesting alternative walks for you to try.
The Cliffs of Moher and Aran Islands
Travel to the Cliffs of Moher; selected as one of the Signature Experiences of the Wild Atlantic Way they are a breath-taking Discovery Point and the crowning glory of the Co. Clare coastline. Like a viewing platform for prehistoric giants who wish to peer over the edge of Europe, they provide an unrivalled view across the vast wildness of the Atlantic Ocean.
All the classic rooms have views over the garden or across the Burren to Galway Bay, which you can sit back and enjoy from one of the window seats or armchairs. Or, you can simply curl up with a book from the well-stocked bookshelf.
Some superior rooms have access to the garden, making them ideal for guests with children and some are upstairs. They’re more generous in size than the classic rooms and have spacious sitting areas as well as more luxurious bathrooms.
Generously proportioned with plenty of living space, sumptuous king-size beds and luxurious bathrooms, one of the junior suites has a private garden area and the other two have bay or mountain views.
These are the largest and most luxurious accommodation – each premier suite has a superking size bed, their own private sitting room, a Tivoli music system, all the luxuries found in the other rooms, plus lots of little extras to make sure you’re as comfortable and relaxed as possible.
Enjoy exceptional fine dining in Gregans award winning restaurant.
In the Dining Room, the head chef Robbie McCauley and his team serve creative and modern dishes using fresh, local ingredients like organic Burren lamb and game, and fresh Atlantic fish and shellfish. The hotel has received many awards for it’s food including 3 Rosettes from the AA for “culinary mastery and excellence” 2018 and the RAI Restaurant of the Year Awards “Best Hotel & Guesthouse Restaurant 2019”.
The extensive and ever-expanding wine list features some of our favourite wines from each continent, including a large selection of organic and bio-dynamic wines.
Children are warmly welcomed at Gregans Castle Hotel and there are many fun activities in the hotel for them, like board games, DVDs and a garden full of secret nooks and crannies for them to get lost in. Above all, the surrounding area is the biggest and most beautiful playground they’ll ever set foot in!
A selection of rooms are suitable for families and some open onto their own garden area, which is perfect for little explorers.
The hotel has a specially-designed children’s menu and can arrange a babysitting service or a telephone listening service to your room.
